ALL YOU Review

by Dana @ Mrs. Moneysaver on April 15, 2009

When asked to review April’s issue of ALL YOU magazine, I excitedly agreed. After all, I have shared with you before how great this magazine is, so the opportunity to let you know a little more about the magazine seemed like a perfect idea.

A little background on ALL YOU: The magazine was launched in August 2004 and is completely focused on value. It’s sold at Walmart stores nationwide, and is chock full of great coupons each month. With a cover price of $2.49 and such valuable coupons, ALL YOU is sure to be a good investment month after month. (You can find better deals per issue by ordering a subscription online. Check out the 2-year subscription deal I shared here recently.) In fact, the magazine’s cover says “This magazine pays for itself.” True, true.

When April’s issue arrived in the mail a few days ago, the first thing I noticed was the line on the cover that read, “Over $51.00 worth of coupons”. Now that’s something a Frugal likes to see! Sure enough, I found savings on 39 different products throughout the issue. My favorite coupon: FREE Sexy Curves Mascara from Rimmel. A sampling of the other coupons included in April’s issue:

-Colgate Total Advanced Toothpaste- $1.50/1
-Hall Cough Drops- .75/1
-PAM Cooking Spray- $1/1
-Sun Chips- $1/1

You can see a full list of the coupons in April’s issue here. (You can also catch a sneak peek of May’s coupon lineup here, with a savings of over $89!)

After my heart stopped racing from flipping from coupon to coupon, I actually sat down to give the magazine a read-through. I was pleasantly surprised at what I found. Honestly, though I had bought this magazine before, I had only clipped the coupons and trashed the rest. I was missing out!

April’s ALL YOU contained tip after tip on saving money. And these were really practical tips too, things I could do at home without much effort. For example, I found a whole article on making clothes last longer. Did you know that you should always put clothes in the wash when they’re unbuttoned? It keeps the threads stronger for longer. News to me!

If you’re struggling with debt, you may find the story titled “We Bound Back From a Financial Crisis” encouraging and inspiring. In this article, ALL YOU shares the stories of four women who fought their way out of debt. It’s really a great article about the lessons learned from fighting financial crisis.

The issue also contained some great at-home spa tips, including recipes for hydrating masks. Here’s a little ALL YOU freebie: For normal to oily complexions, combine 1 tbsp. plain yogurt, 1 tbsp. pureed cucumber, and 1 tbsp. freshly minced parsley, then gently massage onto your face. I love an easy DIY spa recipe!

Probably my favorite thing about the April issue was the article on revamping your style on a budget. Typically, when reading women’s magazines, I just skip right past the fashion sections because the clothes are always ludicrously expensive. But I was so happy to find outfits in this magazine that I could actually afford and from stores I love to shop, like Gap and Payless. And the clothes look good! (You can check out other great spring looks for less on ALL YOU’s blog.)

After reading April’s ALL YOU, I concluded this truly is a magazine focused on real women. The ideas were practical and attainable, and the savings were fabulous. I’m looking forward to reading the May issue now too, cover to cover.

Hurry, if you want to pick up April’s issue of ALL YOU, I would do so this week. I believe the May issue comes out soon.

You can also sign up for ALL YOU’s weekly Deals & Meals newsletter here. The newsletter contains money saving tips, giveaways, recipes, and more.

If any of you have anything to add about ALL YOU, I would love to hear your thoughts!

And stay tuned- in addition to some other upcoming giveaways, Frugal in Virginia readers will soon have an opportunity to win a subscription to this magazine.

Thanks for posting your review. I too am guilty of just clipping the coupons and not reading the articles, but thanks to your review, I will start reading the articles too!
