Unilever Beauty Tip of the Day Giveaway

by Dana @ Mrs. Moneysaver on October 27, 2009

Have you noticed the Beauty Tip of the day on the right sidebar of this site?  It’s brought to you by Unilever.  Each day a different tip is shared, along with coupons and free samples.  Just scroll down until you see the beauty tips widget and click to see the tip.  To access the coupon, click on “Body”, “Face”, or “Hair” in the upper right corner of the widget, and then “Bonus”.   If you’re viewing this in an email, you will have to click over to this site to see the widget.

The Beauty Tip of the Day has been available on this site for a couple of months, and some great tips have been shared.  My favorite so far:  Apply a dab of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly to your eyelashes each day.  It conditions your lashes while making the tips look darker.

To kick off the Beauty Tip of the Day program, Unilever sent me a box with products from Pond’s, Dove, Vaseline, and more.  They also want to give one of these boxes to a Frugal in Virginia reader.  The box of products is a grab bag, so the contents will be a surprise until it arrives at the winner’s house!

You have three chances to win. You can enter in each of the three ways, or just pick which entries you would like to submit. Make sure you leave a separate comment for each entry. If you are reading this post from an email, you must click over to the actual post to leave your comments.

1.  Tell me your favorite beauty tip.  (Mine:  For oily hair, shampoo twice when you wash your hair, using just a little bit of shampoo each time, lathered up.)

2. Subscribe to this blog, and leave me a comment letting me know you’ve done so. Click here to subscribe by email or feed reader or see the right sidebar to sign up. You must remain a subscriber for the duration of this giveaway. If you’re already a subscriber, leave a comment letting me know.

3. Follow me on Twitter. (@frugalinva) and tweet about this giveaway. You must do both! Then leave a comment below with the tweet.  (Click on the time stamp below the giveaway tweet to see a status update page.  Leave the link to that page.)

Remember, please leave a separate comment for each entry. And please enter only in the ways listed above. I reserve the right to delete comments not adhering to the above entry guidelines.

You can enter anytime now through Thursday, November 5th at 8PM EDT. One winner will be selected at random. I will contact the winner by email shortly after the giveaway ends, and the winner will have 48 hours to respond. If the winner does not respond within that time frame, a new winner will be announced.

Thanks for entering!

I have very fine hair so I only shampoo the top part of my hair. It doesn’t weigh my hair down. Then I condition just a little on the bottom. Thanks for the chance to win this:)

For oily hair and you don’t have time to jump in the shower and or time to wash…give yourself a dry wash with baby powder. Put a little bit of powder at the scalp and through the body of your hair – then fluff and/or brush powder out.

I used pre-packaged face wash cloths (like the Ponds or Neutrogena). They come in a package of 30 and I just cut them in half and have enough for 2 months.

I take my eye makeup off with gentle, unscented lotion. It conditions my eye lashes & is gentle on the thin sensitive skin around my eyes.

I mix foundation with face lotion and sunscreen. I get a custom tinted mousturizer with an SPF of 30 for very little.

every couple of weeks i “shampoo” my hair with a little baking soda instead of my regular shampoo. It clarifies all of the buildup out and lets my shampoo and conditioner do their job!

beauty tip- when my heels are super dry in between pedis, I’ll put a TON of vaseline on my feet and rub a ton into my heels and put socks on b4 bed. Then in the morning I use a pumice stone or other foot scrubber and everything cooperates nicely and my feet are super nice and smooth!

my favorite beauty tip was cuting the strips from the pillowcase and twisting hair at night to create curls in the morning. my poor hair has had years of straightening and needs a break!

I use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly to: smooth unruly eyebrows, sooth chapped lips, soften dry hands, and soften rough elbows and feet. It’s almost a one-stop beauty solution in a jar!

My favorite beauty tip that I have used for almost 20 years and I would be lost if they ever took it off the market is using Infusium Leave-In Conditioning Treatment for dry/damaged hair after every shower and right before styling. It makes my thick hair, soft, shiny and much more manageable. Thank you!

I use Bag Balm on my hands at night during the fall and winter to help with the chapping and cracking. It’s the only lotion or creme that really works for me. I wake up in the morning with healed hands.

Apparently a lot of people do this, but I’ve found it very useful to put a bit more lotion than normal on my hands and feet before bed, then wear socks and gloves so that in the morning, they’re soft and smooth!

How to evenly apply liquid foundation so it feels light and looks great… put small amount of liquid foundation on index finger and dab it on your nose, forehead, cheekbones, and chin, then repeat step with your choice of face lotion, dabbing directly on top of foundation, then using your fingers or makeup sponge rub into your face evenly. I hate wearing foundation, and I learned this tip from my sister in law… and not only does it look great but it also feels like I am not wearing foundation at all.

I actually put my hair in a ponytail and just wash the hair infront and above my ears every other day… fresh in the front and the rest is always clean and keeps from drying out too much

If you are a brunette (like me :) ) and you are running a little late on your next hair dying appointment…use a little black mascara to cover your grey roots! It works like a charm ;) You may also use a hair dryer after applying the mascara to make sure it won’t smudge off.

I’m a subscriber, and here’s a tip: If you’re dying your hair at home, take some vaseline and apply it to the edge of your hairline (forehead, temples, back of neck, ears) – it will keep the dye from entering your skin, so any slip ups will be easy to clean up and won’t stain your skin!

For easy-to-pluck eyebrows, hold a hot washcloth (wrung out) over your eyebrow for a minute or so. This opens the pores, so it doesn’t hurt as bad when you pluck! Also, wetting down your eyebrows allows you to see them easier and pluck the perfect shape! A lighted magnifying mirror is helpful also!

Apply concealer, foundation or powder to the top of your eyelids prior to any other makeup. It creates a base and allows eye shadows to stay on longer. Also, for lip color that lasts, try using Vaseline with lip pencil. Put on the vaseline first then the lip pencil (use the pencil all over your lips, not to line them) and use the pencil sparingly until you get the hang of it. Finally, for nails use a colored base coat with a clear coat on top. It lasts much longer!

My tip is a frugal one: I tear my cotton ball in half before I use it to apply clarifying lotion or astringent. This not only makes my bag of cotton ball last twice as long it also extends the time between purchases of skin care products as you don’t throw a cotton ball soaked with expensive beauty products in the trash

My beauty tip is to take fish oil caps and squish them up and use the oil as a face moisturizer. It leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth and glowing. Martha Stewart swears by it. SO it must be a good thing.

Regular table salt and sugar make a good/natural face scrub(exfoliator) . I simply put a bit in a small bowl, take it with me to the shower and about twice a week use it after or even while I use my face cleansing bar. This sluffs off the dead skin and keeps my face looking happy and shiny….all for a low cost. This also works for trouble spots like elbows, knees and calloused heels.
